The Flavor of Home, Miles Away From Home.

Food is more than just a plate; it's a memory, a hug from a grandmother, the sound of family laughter, the warm breeze of the Caribbean beaches where we grew up. For us, Rony and Rhaiza, the story of My Cabana began right there, in our childhood kitchens in Venezuela, long before we ever dreamed of Australia.

Our first teachers were our mothers, who passed down the secrets of a perfect arepa and the rich flavors of a Colombian bandeja paisa. Rony also carries with him the wisdom of his grandfather, whose hands taught him that the best ingredient is always passion. We grew up surrounded by the aromas of home-cooked food, a heritage that we carried in our hearts when we embarked on our new life in Brisbane.

Australia welcomed us with open arms, but soon, a deep longing set in—a nostalgia for the flavors that defined us. We missed the taste of home. And we realised that if we missed it, maybe others did too.

That’s when the dream of My Cabana started to simmer. It began small, from our own kitchen, with the familiar ritual of making hallacas for Christmas and folding golden dough for frozen tequeños and empanadas. We wanted to share a piece of our home with our new community.

What started at home soon rolled out onto the streets of Brisbane with our beloved food truck. The joy of seeing faces light up with the first bite of a taste from their homeland, or the curiosity of a new friend trying something for the first time, fueled our passion. We knew we had to create a permanent space, a true cabana for everyone.

Today, My Cabana is that dream come true. When you step inside, the first thing you might notice is the floor, a tribute to the kinetic art of Carlos Cruz-Diez at the Maiquetía airport—that last piece of home so many Venezuelans see before they leave. We wanted your first step inside to feel like a step back home.

Our journey also led Rony to fall in love with the vibrant culture of Mexico, and we knew our cabana had to have it all. It became a place where arepas, bandeja paisa, and tacos live happily together, celebrating the incredible diversity of Latin America.

My Cabana is more than a restaurant. It’s the sound of salsa, the energy of karaoke nights, the warmth of the Caribbean, and the fusion of cultures in a country that has given us so much. It’s a legacy for our three little ones, born here in Australia, so they can grow up tasting the roots of their parents.
